Welcome to Whakarewarewa Villag!
Whakarewarewa Village is the legacy and home of the Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao people. Since the early 1800s, the Te Arawa people have occupied the valley since 1325, and have been inviting visitors to share insights about Maori culture and to see how we utilize our region's natural geothermal marvels for cooking, bathing, and heating. Visitors to Whakarewarewa now are still enthralled and fascinated by the continued usage of the valley's natural geothermal scenery.
The Tūhourangi Ngāti Wāhiao people have pioneered the Rotorua and New Zealand tourist industries. Our objective is to carry on the legacy and walk in the shoes of our ancestors.
